BP Employees,

The interest rates used to calculate your BP RAP pension lump‑sums didn’t move much over the past month. However, we are forecasting that these rates will decline moderately next month.
What’s driving the outlook
In late August, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell spoke at the annual Jackson Hole conference, signaling that the Fed may be close to starting rate cuts as inflation shows signs of cooling. At the same time, President Trump has been openly pushing for lower rates, arguing that the economy needs lower rates to promote more growth heading into the fall. These headlines are creating expectations in the market that rates could begin trending down as soon as September.
Looking ahead
Based on current market and economic conditions, we expect the rates used to calculate your BP pension will come down somewhat next month. While nothing is guaranteed, the combination of Fed commentary and political pressure is pointing in that direction.
Why this matters
When rates go down it can impact your pension lump‑sum value. Even modest changes can make a noticeable difference in the amount you could receive.
